Does anyone have instructions on how to rebuild the initrd file? I need to update the drivers for the Broadcom and of course don't know all that is required to recompile that file so I can get my PXE to boot for the newer style servers. What tools are required to update it as well.

Thanks

Brandon

you should ask this question on the list for the os you are using they would have the best answer.

Sounds like your making progress.

keep on plugging.

This would be the initrd file that is included with the unattended linux boot files for the unattend install. I would like to make sure that everything stays the same as that distribution with the exception of the updated nic drivers.

I didn't actually use the linux distribution I just used netbsd because that is what I like.

Figure out the linux distribution and version and ask I'm sure someone will help you.

This google search yielded some answers and if the distribution was added it would probably work.

linux rebuild initrd add network driver - Google Search

Unfortunately for you I seem to be the only left on this list and I have no idea.

Thanks for the help. I will see what I can do. It's too bad it still not being actively developed on it's a great tool. I have it working well for the desktops and my older servers it just the newer ones that have the updated nic cards that seem to have the issue.

Thanks for the help,

Brandon

It really is a collection of scripts. I used a netbsd server instead of the linux server.

As far as the image you are currently struggling with I believe you could swap out pxe boot image.

Have fun,

Ben

Okay I read through the following and could do it but the only issue I
have is I don’t have debian or fedora box mine would be Ubuntu.
Brandon,

There are 2 methods to fix your issue. One is to build using
debian/ubuntu and the other on is to add those drivers without building it.

Just check the page and let us know if that works for you.

I am testing right now to build using 3.4.4 and applying some patches
from Slava Pechenin so I am curious if that works for you as well...

I think you should at least give it a try. Ubuntu is based on debian, so I
would guess that the kernel modules would be the same.

It's kinda old, but this web page has some details about how to do that. I
haven't needed to edit the initrd in several years myself.

[Unattended] Question

Does anyone have instructions on how to rebuild the initrd file? I need
to update the drivers for the Broadcom and of course don’t know all that
is required to recompile that file so I can get my PXE to boot for the
newer style servers. What tools are required to update it as well.

Thanks

Brandon
