Dear community!

I have to install XP on J&W netbook "MINIX".
I have using PXE/tftpboot using kernel 2.6.30.10. (from 2010.02.02.)
This box have wired interface e100, module is loaded, but can not bring up
(ifconfig eth0 up) - ifconfig: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Function not implemented
google says that is it most possible IO or IRQ collision - BIOS setup does
not allow me to disable anything, of course I can not put card to other
slot :(
"lspci -vnn" sad, that card is it on 0xe000 IO address and on IRQ 44

I have tried out RIP Linux 11.0 with kernel 2.6.35.6 - it is working, I
can bring up the interface and obtain IP address by DHCP.
"lspci -vnn" sad, that card is it on 0xe000 IO address and on IRQ 20

Any ideas? e100 interface not so new or exotic NIC.
Now I have trying to make a new boot disk - at least it is using
linux-2.6.32.8. Also I have realized that some packages can not be
download:
DBD-PgPP-0.07 - I found 0.08 from the same site
mysql-5.0.88 - I found 5.0.89 from the same site
pmtools-20071116 - I found 20101124 from the same site
syslinux-3.84 - I found 3.86 from the same site
zlib-1.2.3 - I found 1.2.5 from the same site
I hope these changes does nothing wrong.

Sincerelly

PS: is it possible to start preinstallation (scripts master and
nt5x-install) using "foreign/third party" Linux Live boot?

Hi David!
I have successfully compiled recent tftpboot image with kernel 2.6.32.8
The result is a nice crash dump at half or less of boot process :(
I would be happy if you can send me bzImage, initrd and .config for kernel
2.6.35 For now I will try some kernel parameters (I need to check what
boot parameters it is accept).

Sincerely
tovis
Hi !
I've recently succeded compiling unattended with the 2.6.35 kernel in
it (on gentoo 64). It solved a lot of trouble with special nic on dell
workstations... I can send you the binaries if you want to try it.

Thanks David!
Unfortunately it is also crash ont this box, as I can recognize near to
start the downloaded images (right after dots finished and about 5-10 log
rows). Have you changed the packages to their new version (see in my first
email)?
Kernel option "acpi=off" does not help. I think I need top configure the
kernel, but I do not know what exactly :( Live Linux "RIP 11.0" is working
well - booting from the same PXE environment with out any problems. The
logs are gone very quickly and I have "tail" of crash dump.
Also I suspect zlib - I have been change to the 1.2.5 version - may be
when kernel is expanded it is goes to trouble. I'm not sure.

Thanks folks for your help!
After many struggling I have get Debian kernel "config" from testing
thread for linux-image-2.6.36 and compile boot disk using that
configuration. The kernel is tremendous - include every driver modules,
but it works for almost every boxes.
First attempt was crash again :( After I realized that I have left
"acpi=off" option in boot menu, I have add noapic and at last I have
managed to boot, with working NIC :)
Windows installer crashed:
PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

I suspect the SATA controller - I'm afraid that I need TEXT mode driver.

try adding
acpi=off noapic
to your boot options
